Jiunji Temple

The Jiunji Temple is said to have been opened by Muso Soseki and is the origin of local education. Within the temple grounds is an inscribed stone monument to Ichiyo Higuchi. The inscription was written by Koda Rohan, and the back of the monument bears the names of many Japanese literary masters of the Meiji period. Also, the Itozakura (a type of weeping cherry) has been designated as a natural monument. It is known as a precious wood and captures the hearts of a large number of admirers each year.
